For the past few days, it has been on my mind to write about the upcoming Presidential election. It would be easy to make this an opinion piece about the Election of 2012; however I shall not do so. It would not be difficult to be strident about one political ideology and place it over the other. Continue reading
I trust that many of you enjoyed your local church service. There is no doubt that you may have heard the pastor giving a pitch to serve in a ministry. I am not opposed to helping out at a church. They could always use the help; however I have this question for you. Is this really what ministry about? Is this what Jesus is talking about in John 13:12-15?

10 and is well known for her good deeds, such as bringing up children, showing hospitality, washing the feet of the saints, helping those in trouble and devoting herself to all kinds of good deeds.
Paul is describing a woman, who has given herself to a life of service. I don’t think this woman limited herself to a church’s sound room or singing hymns on a choir. There is more to ministering than this.
When it comes to ministering, we have something in common with the servers at our favorite restaurant. A minister is one who serves and that is what Jesus called us to do. Paul would point out that serving is not limited to what is done in a church building. It is what we do outside those four walls.
How are we to serve? What is our heart attitude? The easy and spiritual answer is “To serve with love and humility”. For fun, I would add “Go visit a good family restaurant and order something. While there, please take the time and observe those who are serving.” There is much we can learn them.
